IMPROVING EFFICIENCY OF ENZYMATIC HYDROLYSIS OF EUCALYPT CHIPS USING A SAA METHOD(SOAKING IN AQUEOUS AMMONIA)
Eucalypt chips(Eucalyptus camaldulensis)were pretreated using aqueous-ammonia solution at moderate temperature to enhance the efficiency of enzymatic hydrolysis and the yield of the fermentable sugars. The response surface methodology was used to investigate the effects of the SAA method on the enzymatic hydrolysis. The results showed that an enzymatic digestibility of 54.14%was obtained when the eucalypt fibers were pretreated at the optimal conditions, with 79.54%of ammonia(w/w)for 10.8 h and keeping the temperature at100℃.The further research was found that H2O2could improve the pretreatment efficiency of the SAA.When 5%of the H2O2was added into the system, the enzymatic digestibility was increased 6.2%due to the oxidation reaction of H2O2.FTIR analysis indicated that most lignin and a trace amount of hemicellulose were degraded during SAA and SAAp pretreatments, and the lignin structure was also changed accordingly.
