USING MFC/CF TO IMPROVE THE INTER-FIBER BONDING CAPACITY OF HIGH-YIELD PULP
Four kinds of microfibrillated cellulose(MFC)and cellulose filaments(CF)were used as “special additives to improve the inter-fiber bonding capacity of a kind of poplar P-RC APMP(as HYP)fibers during the paper sheets preparation,with few sacrifice of its high bulk.Also,the mechanical treatment for this HYP fibers(beating by a PFI mill)and the addition of traditional chemicals(cationic polyacrylamide,CPAM)were used as the controls to verify the improving efficiency of the MFC/CF.Page bonding strength index(PBSI)which represents the shear bonding strength of paper or board was obtained to characteristic the bonding capacity of HYP.The results showed that all the four kinds of MFC/CF had different improvements for the inter-fiber bonding capacity of HYP fibers with varying degrees of bulk loss.With the addition of four kinds of MFC/CF,the PBSI increased dramatically with an increase of 65%to 115%when the dosage was only 5%(based on the o.d.pulp).However,compared to the control(PFI beating and CPAM addition),the bulk decrease was significantly less,and the biggest drop for the bulk property was only 13%with the addition of MFC/CF.The MFC/CF had a positive influence on the inter-fiber bonding capacity of HYP with little sacrifice of the bulk,and it can apply as a “special additive in papermaking process of HYP-contained paper and board to improve the properties of the products or increase the proportion of HYP.
