EFFECTS OF THE TYPE OF MODIFIERS AND THE REACTION CONDITIONS ON THE ORGANIC MODIFICATION OF MONTMORILLONITE
To increase the layer spacing of montmorillonite and the compatibility between montmorillonite and organic phase,four organic montmorillonites were prepared by using dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(DTAB),cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB),octadecyltrimethylammonium bromide(OTAB)and octadecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride(ODBA)as organic modifiers to modify the montmorillonite.Meanwhile,this paper examined the effects of reaction temperature,time and amount of modifier on modified montmorillonite and the optimal reaction conditions were selected by orthogonal experiment.The structure of organic montmorillonites were evaluated by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray diffraction(XRD)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM),the results showed that the modifiers has entered into the interlayer of montmorillonite and the modification effect of ODBA was the best.The optimum condition of ODBA-MMT was as following: the reaction temperature was 80 ℃,the reaction time was 3 h,and the amount of modifier was 1.2 CEC.
