RESEARCH ON FLUOROPOLYMER APPLIED IN THE SURFACE SIZING OF FLUTING PAPER

  Ring crush strength and water resistance are two important characteristics for the fluting paper that exposure to environmental conditions such as cold,heat,humidity and moisture is unavoidable.The modified or enzymatic starch was usually used to surface size the fluting paper to improve its water resistance.However,the ring crush strength of the fluting paper would decrease with the improvement of its water resistance due to the hydrophilicity of starch.In the present work,different fluorine content of fluoropolymers were used to surface size the fluting paper in order to enhance both ring crush strength and water resistance of the fluting paper.The results indicated that ring crush strength and water resistance of the surface sized fluting paper were improved with the increase of the surface sizing grammage of the fluoropolymer.In addition,the high fluorine content of fluoropolymer can significantly increase the water resistance of the surface sized fluting paper,and improve further the ring crush strength,compared to the other fluoropolymers at the same surface sizing grammage.Furthermore,the mechanism of fluoropolymer action was also discussed by using FTIR,particle size analyzer technologies and so on in this paper.
