The SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POIYACRYLAMIDE-GRAFTED XYLAN AS STRENGTHENING AGENTS FOR WASTE PULP SHEETS
Hemicellulose is one of the main components of agriculture and forestry biomass,which is very rich next to cellulose.In comparison of cellulose and lignin,the investigation on the utilization of hemicelluloses has been limited relatively due to its complex structures.Recently,more and more attentions have focused on the conversion of hemicellulose such as biomaterials,biopolymers and other chemicals.In this work,the objective was to synthesize functional biopolymers from xylan-type hemicelluloses as the additives for strengthening waste pulp.Polyacrylamide-grafted xylan was synthesized by the graft copolymerization with acrylamide and xylan as the raw material under the initiator function.The influence of reaction conditions such as the initiator concentration,reaction temperature and reaction time as well as the amount of grafted monomer were discussed on the grafting efficiency,the grafting ratio and the monomer conversion rate of the graft copolymers.It was found that the grafting ratio,grafting efficiency and monomer conversion ratio of xylan graft polyacrylamide increased firstly and then decreased with the increasing initiator concentration,temperature,reaction time and monomer concentration increases.When the reaction time was 4 h,the initiator concentration was 0.015 mol/L,the reaction temperature was 60 ℃,and the monomer concentration was 0.705 mol/L,the maximum grafting ratio was 84.96%.Polyacrylamide-grafted xylan was characterized by FTIR,TGA and EA.In addition,these as-prepared copolymers as the paper strengthen additive to improve the mechanical properties of the waste paper pulp were also investigated.
