DECOLORIZATION OF BASIC RHODAMINE-B FROM DYE WASTEWATERS BY SPENT MUSHROOM SUBSTRATE
Basic Rhodamine-B(Rh-B)is often used for dyeing paper. However,by using common adsorbents such as active carbon, the removal of this dye is very low and also influenced by the pH of wastewater itself.Low-cost and eco-friendly adsorbents(spent mushroom substrate,SMS)have been regarded as an ideal alternative to remove dyes from wastewater,as compared with current expensive methods. The adsorption capacities of SMS and mushroom substrate prior to use(MSP)were compared. The effects of pH,Rh-B quality, stirring speed and adsorption isotherm have been studied at 25 and 35 ℃.The Langmuir,Freundlich and Temkin models were used in this study. It was found that acidic pH is detrimental to basic Rh-B dye adsorption. At the initial adsorbent dose of 0.1 g,the adsorption capacities of SMS and MSP were 12.09 and 3.93 mg/g respectively. For SMS,the Langmuir equation fit better than the other models. However, due to different surface structure,Freundlich equation is suitable to MSP.When absorbent loading was fitted at 10g/L,Rh-B with concentrations of 20 mg/L has shown adsorption removals of about 99.6 and 70.2%for SMS and MSP,respectively. From the perspectives of the adsorption isotherm,it could be speculated that the structure of biomass used for muchroom cultivation were significantly changed, which is benefit to the absorption of Rh-B from wastewater.
