Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Wastepaper Fiber reinforced

  How to use the wastepaper effectively has received considerable attention from the paper-making industry in recent years.There has been growing interest in the use of recycled plant fiber as a substitute fiber source for fiber-reinforced polymer manufacturing.In this paper,old newspaper(ONP)without any chemical treatment and recycled-polypropylene(rPP)were used as the main raw materials to product composite materials by hot press molding process.The composition and morphology of ONF fiber was analyzed,and the effect of the fiber loading on the tensile properties,flexural properties and water absorption of ONP/rPP composites were investigated.The thermal properties and interfacial properties of the composites were studied using thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The results found that ONP fiber can be considered as reinforcement for composites.As fiber content increased tensile and flexural strength increased up to a fiber load of 20 wt%.The maximum tensile strength of the composite with 20 wt%ONP fibers increased by 20.9%compared to rPP.The flexural modulus increased with the increasing of the ONP fiber content.With the increasing of the fiber content and the immersion time,the water absorption of the composites increased gradually.The water absorption rate of all samples in 24h was less than 1%and it tended to steady after soaking 96h.The results of the TGA experiment indicated that the addition of ONP fiber decreased the thermal stability of the composites compared to neat rPP.The SEM found that 20 wt%ONP fibers showed a good dispersion of fiber in the rPP,however there were some gaps between fibers and the matrix.
