THE CONTROLLING OF THE PARTICLE SIZE AND THE CONTENT OF FINE PARTICLE OF CAUSTICIZED CALCIUM CARBONATE

Causticizing calcium carbonate(CCC)is a by-product that comes from the alkali recovery process. It can be used as paper filler to replace an amount of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate(PCC).This way not only brings appreciable environment benefits but also reuses the waste resource.Beforeit is used as paper filler, the CCC must be ground in order to obtain the appropriate average particle size.Unfortunately, more fine particle is produced by the grinding process, which affect the application performance of wet-end chemicals and filler retention. In order to control the particle size of CCC and the content of fine particle,in this study, the factors influencing particle size of CCC,such as grinding time of Ca(OH)2,caustification efficiency and carbonization time were investigated. The results showed that the average particle size of Ca(OH)2had a profound effect on the causticizing efficiency and the average particle size of CCC.Lower average particle size of Ca(OH)2can promote the higher causticizing efficiency and lower the average particle size of CCC.The carbonization reaction of CCC had a little effect on the average particle size of CCC,but affected the content of fine calcium carbonate obviously.
