ADSORPTIVE REMOVAL OF CR(Ⅵ)FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS USING MICROGEL BASED ON NANOCELLULOSE AND POLYVINYLAMINE

In this paper,nano-crystalline cellulose(NCC)was extracted from fully bleached hardwood kraft pulp(BHKP)by sulfuric acid hydrolysis.NCC was then oxidized by sodium periodate to obtain dialdehyde nanocellulose(DANC).DANC was used as a crosslinker to react with polyvinylamine(PVAm)to prepare the DANC-PVAm nanocomposite microgel. The synthesized microgel was characterized by using FTIR,AFM.The results showed that the nanocomposite microgel contained high density of free amine groups.AFM images revealed that the nanocomposite was microspherical particles with a diameter ranging from 200-300 nm.The microgel was applied as adsorbent to remove Cr(VI)ions in aqueous solutions. The nanocomposite microgel showed maximum removal efficiency of Cr(VI)ions at pH 2.The adsorption isotherms for Cr(VI)ions fitted well with Sips model, and the maximum adsorption capacities were 270.2703 mg g-1.The adsorption of Cr(VI)ions followed pseudo second order kinetic models, which suggested its chemisorption nature.
