EFFECT OF STEAM EXPLOSION PRETREATMENT ON THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND FIBER CHARACTERISTICS OF CORN STALK

The influence of steam explosion pretreatment with or without acid on the chemical composition and sugar contents of corn stalk was investigated. And the fiber characteristics of pretreated solids were also studied with scanning electron microscopy(SEM),FS-300 automatic fiber analyzer and fully automatic surface and pore analyzer. The results showed that there was no significant decrease in cellulose content after two type of steam explosion.Hemicellulose was obviously degraded and a portion of lignin was also solubilized. The fiber surface and the cell walls of the steam explosion with dilute acid pretreated solids were damaged deeply.Since the specific surface area and pore were increased and the length of the fiber became shorter,it was more benefit for the further hydrolysis by cellulase. As for the pure steam explosion(without acid),the degradation of carbohydrates mainly existed in the form of polysaccharide, with the concentration of 7.03 g/L,which took up 94.4%of the total sugar content. However, the content of polysaccharide decreased after acid steam explosion(with acid),which resulting in the increment of monosaccharide. The monosaccharides and polysaccharides were 31.4%and 68.6%of total sugar content, respectively.
