Fabrication of transparent cellulose nanofibers film with high strength
Different types of cellulose materials(hardwood,softwood,bagasse and microcrystalline cellulose)were applied to TEMPO/NaBr/NClO oxidation to prepare nanofibers.The carboxylate contents of water insoluble fractions were 1.2 mmol/g to 1.6 mmol/g based on the cellulose materials.The obtained CNF dispersions had high transparence of more than 90%,and the individual CNF of each cellulose dispersed well in water which were determined in TEM images.The morphology of each type of CNF was different from each other in length and diameters.The obtained CNF films were transparent and had high water-retention value of more than 40 except MCC(microcrystalline cellulose)CNF films.As the CNF retained the crystalline structure and part of amorphous regions were degraded,the CNF films had excellent mechanical property.The Youngs modulus of all CNF films were more than 3.0 GPa,especially the bagasse CNF films,which could be 7.1 GPa.The break elongations of films were less than 10%,the softwood CNF films showed the largest and MCC CNF films were 6.7%,which was the smallest.With adding glycerol,the mechanical property of films decreased,but elongation was improved.
