INFLUENCES OF PFI REFINING ON PROPERTIES OF MFC AND NANOFIBER PAPER-BASED MATERIALS

Microfibrillated Cellulose(MFC)is viewed as a new cellulose fiber material in terms of nanocomposite applications.Nevertheless, the utilization of MFC was limited due to the size distribution and the degree of fibril homogeneity of industrialized MFC products. The PFI refining was applied for MFC to post-treatment in this study. The results showed that the uniformity of MFC was significantly improved by PFI refining, the component with the length less than 200 μm could reach to 92.3%and the average length was 42 μm when the revolution of PFI was 20000r.Higher performance of paper-based materials can be prepared by post-treatment of MFC with PFI refining, the tightness and transparency of paper-based materials can be increased by 66.13%and 40.26%,respectively,the absorbency can be declined by 45.83%with the revolution of 60000r.The highest growth of tear and tensile index can be increased by 268.03%(10000 r)and 90.41%(20000 r),respectively.
