ADSORPTION MODELING FOR THE PREPARATION OF STARCH-BASED ANTIBACTERIAL COMPOUND

In this study, the antibacterial activity was introduced into cationic starch(CS)by adsorbing triclosan(TCS)technology. The TCS adsorption process onto CS was analyzed by two kinetic models and three isotherm models, and the related sorption effect was analyzed by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer(FT-IR).The antibacterial activity and strength properties of CS/TCS added paper were measured respectively. The results show that the TCS adsorption process onto CS has high correlation coefficient(R2>0.9)with adsorption models, indicating that CS has a good adsorption capacity for TCS,the adsorption type is chemisorption, and the reaction power is electrostatic interactions. The antibacterial activity of handsheets against S.aureus is enhanced after adding CS/TCS compound, according to the result of developed Quines method. The strength properties of handsheets are reinforced, including dry tensile index, wet tensile strength, and burst index. As a kind of multifunctional agent,CS/TCS compound not only can improve the physical strength for paper, but also introduce antibacterial activity into paper. Therefore,it will receive a good requirement to meet the development of low-cost and high-efficient functional paper products.
