LIGNIN-BASED FLEXIBLE FILM AS A SEPARATOR FOR ELECTRIC DOUBLE-LAYER CAPACITOR
To develop a novel,lignin-based functional material,we tried to fabricate polyester film by melt-polycondensation of polyethylene glycol lignin(PEGL)and maleic anhydride(MA)to give separator material for electric double-layer capacitor(EDLC).The EDLC assembled with commercial activated carbon, organic electrolyte, and the bipolyester film, showed only low electrochemical performance as compared to the one assembled with commercial cellulosic film.Porous bipolyester film brought about improved electrochemical performance of the resulting EDLC.Non-porous terpolyester film, prepared from PEGL,MA,and polyethylene glycol 500,000(PEG 500,000),was flexible enough and provided EDLC with even higher electrochemical performance.Finallly,EDLC with porous terpolyester film was prepared and it showed the highest electrochemical performance, which was comparable to or even better than the one with cellulosic separator.Porosity and flexibility were thought to be important to fabricate self-standing film for separator material of high performance EDLC.
