NANO-CELLULOSE/POLYSULFONAMIDE COMPOSITE TO PRODUCE BATTERY SEPARATOR VIA PAPERMAKING PROCESS
Battery separators have been gained increasing interests due to the vital roles for the safety, sustainability, electrochemical performance of lithium ion batteries(LIBs).The lower manufacturing cost and environmentally friendly raw materials and processes are desirable. In this work,a nano-cellulose/polysulfonamide(PSA)composite for a high performance LIB was obtained by adding nano-cellulose to a mixture of highly refined softwood pulp and PSA fibers via a papermaking process. The obtained composite separator showed high porosity(68%),small and uniform pores; excellent thermal stability and super electrolyte wettability(293.62%)contributed by PSA fiber. This composite exhibited stable dimension in the elevated temperature even to 180 ℃.A commercial separator membrane(Celgard 2350)was compared with the lab made separator, the Nano-cellulose/PSA composite showed an excellent-performance with high electric capacity and safety.
