Preparation and characterization of bagasse nanofibers by laccase/TEMPO mediator oxidation
In this study,laccase/TEMPO(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl radical)oxidation system was first applied to bagasse pulp to prepare cellulose nanofibers.During the oxidation, the activity of laccase decreased sharply in high concentration of TEMPO,but the carboxylate content of oxidized cellulose could be improved to 0.65 mmol/g.The addition of laccase and extension of oxidation time also had positive effect. There was no significant differences in XRD patterns and FTIR spectra between the oxidized cellulose by chemical oxidation and that by enzymatic oxidation. With ultrasonic treatment, the oxidized cellulose could successfully separate to individual nanofibers. The diameter of most cellulose nanofibers ranged from 5 nm to 20 nm in AFM(atomic force microscopy)images, and the length was more than 1 μm.Some results showed that the depolymerization of cellulose was milder in laccase/TEMPO system.
