Preparation and characterization of nanofibrillated cellulose(NFC)from bagasse and the thermal and mechanical properties of NFC/PVA nanocomposite
Bagasse is an abundant raw material of non-wood fiber. In the present work, nanofibrillated cellulose(NFC)extracted from bagasse by the pretreatment of TEMPO-Mediated oxidation and continuous homogenizing were used to reinforce polyvinyl alcohol(PVA),and their influence on the thermal properties, crystallinity, and strength properties of the resulting nanocomposite films were studied. It is confirmed that due to the uniform dispersion of strong hydrogen bonds of carboxyl and hydroxyl groups between NFC and PVA can be achieved, leading to a synergistic reinforcement effect on thermal and mechanical properties of the nanocomposite films.FT-IR and XRD showed that the chemical structure of the nanocomposite film and cellulose crystalline form has not changed.Compared with the neat PVA,the NFC/PVA nanocomposite film with 6wt%NFC has an increase of about 240%in tensile strength,158%in elastic modulus, and the glass transition temperature(Tg)has been significantly improved.
