Preparation of Alkyne-Functionalized Cellulose Fibers via In Situ Polymerization and Their Click Reactivity
In this work,we developed an in situ polymerization method for the preparation of alkyne-functionalized cellulose fibers(ACFs)with click reactivity.ACFs were generated through in situ oxidization polymerization of 3-ethynylaniline(3-EA)with ammonium persulphate(APS)in the presence of cellulose fibers.Attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(ATR-FTIR)spectra showed that the stretching vibration of alkynyl groups(2105 cm-1)and phenyl groups(1597 cm-1 and 1487 cm-1)existed in ACFs,confirming the successful preparation of ACFs.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)images at different magnifications were observed, and the results also confirmed the successful preparation of ACFs.The effects of process variables on the deposition of poly(3-EA)were investigated, and the suitable preparation conditions of ACFs were obtained,i.e.,1.5%(wt%)3-ethynylaniline,1.0 mol/L initial hydrochloric acid concentration,1:4 of3-EA/APS mole ratio,5 ℃ and 48 h.Although part of alkynyl groups were inevitably changed into carbonyl groups or carbonyl derivatives during ACFs preparation, the remanent alkynyl groups(around 50%)were enough to meet the need of click reaction.Diphenylphosphoryl azide(DPPA)was used to react with ACFs and poly(3-EA)by Cu(Ⅰ)catalyzed alkyne-azide 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition(CuAAC),respectively.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)spectra showed that elemental phosphorus(P)appeared in ACFs and poly(3-EA)after click reaction, indicating the occurrence of click reaction. Thus, this in situ polymerization technology provides a new platform to realize the click functionalization of cellulose fibers.
