PREPARATION OF LIGNOCELLULOSIC GELS BY DISSOLUTION IN NMMO·H2OVIA MODIFICATION WITH SILANE COUPLING AGENT

  This article reports a facile method of preparing lignocellulosic gels from a solution of lignocelluloses in N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide(NMMO)monohydrate system by sol-gel process.Lignocelluloses with various lignin content were dissolved in NMMO·H2O system via a decisive pretreatment,lignocellulosic hydrogels can be formed by regeneration of lignocellulose/NMMO solution in ethanol.Lignocellulosic aerogels were prepared from the prepared hydrogels via solvent exchange and freeze-drying.Aerogels were investigated by XRD,SEM,FT-IR and BET analysis.Results showed that these aerogels had fibrous network structure formed by cellulose,lignin and hemicelluloses.After crosslinking with silane coupling agent,3-Triethoxysilylpropylamine(KH550),the mechanical strength of lignocellulosic gels was improved significantly.The results also indicated that chemical bonding among the components(lignin,cellulose and hemicelluloses)was formed after the hydrolysis of KH550.This reaction also promoted the interfacial compatibility between the different components resulting inenhancing the mechanical properties of the lignocellulosic gel.
