Protein separation using magnetically-responsive nanocellulose

Magnetically responsive nanoparticles were prepared by EDC/NHS conjugation of TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanocrystals(TO-CNC)with superparamagnetic Fe3O4 functionalized with amino groups and synthesized via co-precipitation.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was employed to investigate the structural and chemical characteristics of the synthesized hybrid materials.Their morphology was explored by transmission electron microscopy. The as-prepared magnetically responsive TO-CNC hybrids were successfully employed for the separation of lysozyme protein from aqueous matrices.
