Study on the substitution of p-hydroxybenzoic acid-carboxymethyl hemicelluloses prepared using hemicelluloses from the APMP waste liquor
In the pulp and paper industry,most of the hemicelluloses run off in the alkaline peroxidemechanical pulp(APMP)waste liquor.Sugar hasanti-cancer effects,the hemicellulose after partial hydrolysis can achieve the same effect,and can also be prepared as non-toxic anti-cancer substances after further carboxymethylation.Hemicellulose from Eucalyptus APMP pulping waste liquor extraction was used as raw material,then was made as carboxymethyl modified hemicellulose(referred to as CMMH)through carboxymethyl reaction preparation,and then became a kind of new preservatives,p-hydroxybenzoic acid-carboxymethyl modified hemicelluloses ester(referred to as P-CMMH),through hydroxyl acid esterification reaction with PHBA(p-hydroxybenzoic acid).The properties of raw materials and the products were studied.The average degree of substitution(0.004826)raised by 50%when the amount of the PHBA changed from 5:1(hydroxybenzoic acid:xylose,mole ratio)to10:1 in the solution of monochloroacetic acid and sodium hydroxide.The infrared spectroscopy results of P-CMMH showed that characteristic absorption peak of aromatic esters appears at 1605~1585cm-1 zone,it means that a substituted ester bond has been successful introduced in the esterification reaction between carboxymethyl modified hemicelluloses andp-hydroxybenzoic acid.
