THE EFFECT OF ALKALI SOLUBLE SUBSTANCES ON TEMPO-OXIDATION OF BLEACHED SOFTWOOD PULP

It was investigated that oxidation of bleached softwood kraft pulp by the TEMPO/NaBr/NaClO system. It was carried out at pH 10 with different NaClO as the increase of oxidation time, and investigated in terms of effects of alkali soluble substances of the oxidation on carboxylate contents.Besides.the aldehyde and carboxylate contents of the oxidation tendency were showed by the change of temperature,NaClO and TEMPO.The results were shown, when 17.5%NaOH was used to swell the pulp, the microstructure could be broken and removed, the alkali soluble substances were wiped off and the residue of bleached softwood pulp only contained α-cellulose fibers, and the carboxylate content changed regularly compared with the original fibers. It also showed that the lower temperature and NaClO could improve the aldehyde contents. Moreover, the oxidized xylan was used as accumulation of oxidation product in the filtrate. The results showed that the oxidization rate and carboxylic group content were reduced significantly.
