THE INFLUENCE DF RUTILE NANO-TIO2 PARTICLES ON PROPERTIES OF PVA/XYLAN COMPOSITE FILMS

Poly vinyl alcohol(PVA)/xylan composite films loading rutile nano-TiO2 particles were prepared by the casting method.Sodium hexametaphosphate(SHMP)was used as a dispersant for the dispersion of nano-TiO2 during the ultrasonic and stirring treatment.Influences of nano-TiO2 amounts on the properties of PVA/xylan composite films such as mechanical properties, thermal stability, solubility, water vapor permeability(WVP)and UV transmittance were investigated.Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)and X-ray diffraction(XRD)spectroscopy confirmed the TiO2 particles existed in the composite films.SEM image indicated that nano-TiO2 particles were well dispersed in PVA/xylan matrix. The results indicated that rutile nano-TiO2 had a positive impact on the flexibility of composite films. The highest elongation at break(EAB)value(285.4%)was obtained under the addition of 4%rutile nano-TiO2 particles, which increased by 30%compared to that of film without nano-TiO2 particles. Moreover, tensile strength(TS)values of all films were higher than 16 MPa.When 1%nano-TiO2 particles were added, the composite films exhibited a lowest WVP value of 3.86 × 10-11 g·m-1·s-1·Pa-1.The composite films loading rutile nano-TiO2 particles also showed the excellent UV shielding performance.
