Fractionation and Characterization of Hemicelluloses of Corn Stalk
In present work, the hemicelluloses were sequentially extracted and fractionated into types of H1–H6 hemicellulosic from delignified corn stalk using dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO),dioxane-triethylamine(9∶1,v/v),saturated hydrogen barium oxide,1M KOH,1M NaOH and 3M KOH,respectively. The yields, sugars, uronic acid, structural and thermal properties of each fractions was analyzed by different analytical techniques(HPAEC,FT-IR,1H NMR,13C NMR and TGA).The results indicated that the solvent systems had a significant influence on the yield and structure of the fractionated hemicelluloses. The structure of hemicelluloses extracted with organic solvent had more branched, while the structure of alkali-soluble hemicelluloses was straight-chain.The hemicellulosic fraction isolated with DMSO appeared to be essentially linked in(1-4)β-D-xylan with 4-O-methyl-glucuronic acid and L-arabinose attached at branched chain. The TGA analysis showed that the thermal stability of alkali-soluble hemicellulose was better than that of the hemicelluloses extracted by organic solvent.Current fractionation and characterization strategies will be beneficial and valuable for further hemicellulose conversion and utilization.
