Performance of cellulose/CaCO3 bionanocomposites in the fluff pulp
Bionanocomposites,combining natural polymers and inorganic nanoparticles,are promising materials to prepare fluff pulp.In this study,cellulose/CaCO3 bionanocomposites obtained by in-situ formation were applied for the manufacture of fluff pulp to improve the dry defibrillation.The result showed that CaCO3 particles(300-600 nm)dispersed well on the surface of the cellulose fibers.The fluff pulp made from the cellulose/CaCO3 exhibited high effectiveness of dry defibrillation and favorable adsorption capacity due to the weak hydrogen bond.The burst index of the handsheetsdecreased 31%(based on the ash content of 1.48 wt.%)without sacrificing the adsorption capacity for the final application of the fluff pulp.Therefore,the cellulose/CaCO3 could be potentially used for preparing the fluff pulp.
