Non-circular Gear Continuous Generating Machining Electronic Gearbox Design and Experimental Research

  Current non-circular gear manufacturing process all use discrete machining method,which generates a large number of small line segments,brings in approximate error,leads to high order discontinuity of the whole machining path curve and breaks the instantaneous meshing relationship between the cutter and workpiece gear.The tooth surface machining quality will be degraded due to the unsmooth processing trajectory and the destroyed meshing relationship.The electronic gearbox(EGB)has been widely used in cylindrical gear machining.It also can be extended to non-circular gear manufacturing because of its flexibility.Through the combination of hobbing theory and practice,this paper aimed to derive a linkage model for non-circular gear hobbing and design the non-circular gear continuous generating machining EGB(NGCGEGB)to realize the continuous generating machining process ensuring the strict instantaneous meshing relationship.The EGB is embedded in the in-house developed CNC system and a pair of 2-order oval gears is machined on a gear hobbing machine tool equipped this CNC system.The roll and application measurement experiments on a kind of gear pump are done to illustrate the machining performance of NGCGEGB and provide a valid reference for non-circle gear machining.
