Adaptive Slicing with Multi-objective Optimization for Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing

In this research, adaptive slicing with multi-objective optimization for layer-based Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing(RP/M)has been developed, enabling userstooptimize the geometrical accuracy and build efficiency of models with complex surfaces.Firstly, candidate feature points havebeenextracted to preserve the geometricalcharacteristics of models.Anadaptive approachhas been then developed to decide the thickness of each slicing layerfor the different areas of the models based on the number of feature points. In the adaptive approach,a Simulated Annealing(SA)-based optimization algorithm has been devisedto achieve the best geometrical accuracy and build efficiency of the models according to users needs. Finally, onecase studies of bone models have been used to verify and demonstrate the performance of the approach in terms of geometrical accuracy and build efficiency.
