Micro Electrochemical Machining Method Based on Electrostatic Actuation

  This paper reports a micro ECM technique based on electrostatic actuation,which is designed to address a variety of problems in electrode gap control.A flat electrode which serves as machine tool is set above work-piece and implements in dielectric sodium nitrate solution in experiment.The flat electrode deformation will narrow the gap due to electrostatic force,and remove the work-piece material once the gap meets processing condition.When pulse generator is in its troughs,the flat electrode will quickly restore to its original condition which will achieve much larger gap than traditional electrochemical machining to benefit waste throwing.Experimental results show that electrostatic drive for micro electrochemical machining has advantages of reducing dependence on high precision machine tools,avoiding complex servo control and improving efficiency.
