Electrochemical machining of casting riser on revolving part by using different cathode feed strategies
Casting superalloys are typical advanced materials used for manufacturing aeroengine turbine blades, aircraft engine cartridge receiver.Their unique characteristics of high hardness, high strength and rich hard particles in the matrix make them exceedingly difficult to machine in the traditional processing. However, some superfluous material formed in the casting process must be removed, such as the necessary casting allowance and casting riser, etc. Therefore,an alternative manufacturing technology is required for efficient machining such alloys.Electrochemical machining(ECM)is a promising method to machine difficult-to-cut materials. In this paper,ECM is employed to process a simulated sample of a particular model of cartridge receiver. Two processing methods are proposed to achieve higher machining efficiency, and the basis for selecting machining methods is also given.Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the single feed method is more suitable than the cyclic feed method to remove the casing riser used in this study. The experiments were also performed and the results show that the machining accuracy of the single feed method was better than that of the cyclic feed method and the processing efficiency was significantly improved.
