Research on ultrasonic cutting of Nomex honeycomb composites material by the pointed cutter
Nomex honeycomb composite has become one of the indispensable structural materials in the aerospace field due to its special characters such as high strength and stiffness to weight ratio.But the poor machinability of honeycomb composite at traditional milling is gradually realized by researchers.The ultrasonic cutting is introduced to process the honeycomb material,the dynamic characteristics in the ultrasonic cutting process are analyzed according to the movement of the pointed cutter and the mathematical model of the cutting force is established to predict the cutting force.Besides,the influence of cutting parameters on cutting force andthe surface quality of honeycomb core under ultrasonic cutting and ordinary cutting were studied by a series of cutting experiments.The experimental results show that the ultrasonic cutting has reduced the cutting force significantly compared with ordinary cutting by considering the feed rate.And the rationality of the proposed model of the cutting force is verified.The burrs、tearing、side defects and deformation of the core under ultrasonic cutting have been improved greatly.From the aspect of feed rate,the surface quality of the ultrasonic cutting process is inversely proportional to the cutting force.
