The Influence of Graphene Orientation on the Friction and Wear Properties of Si3N4/TiC Based Composite Ceramic Tool Materials
Tribological performance of Si N/TiC based composite ceramic tool materials containing 5wt%graphene platelets with different orientation angle of graphene(0°,15°,30°,45°,60°,90°)have been investigated by pin-on-disc tests in dry sliding conditions. The results revealed that graphene orientation angle has obvious influence on the friction coefficient and wear rate. The friction coefficient and wear rate of Si3N4/TiC based composite ceramic tool materials with the 30°orientation angle are 0.46 and 4.29×10-6mm3/N·m,respectively.Which is decreased by 31.3%and 63%compared with that of 0°orientation angle. The improved wear behavior can be explained by the distribution uniformity of adhered tribofilm which is created by grahene and iron oxides and the combined effect of graphene pull-out and the contact area between graphene and the friction surface.
