A general method for calculating the elastic contact angle of ball screw with Gothic profile accounting for raceway profile error
The elastic contact angle is one of the most important operating characteristics of a ball screw pair.In order to evaluate the influence levels of different raceway profile errors,a mathematical model for the calculation of elastic contact angle of ball screw with raceway profile error is derived and presented in this paper.Based on Hertz elastic contact theory and deformation compatibility principle,a deformation model for ball in ball screw under preload with raceway profile error is proposed.The static equilibrium equation is solved by a loop which aims to eliminate the coupling between elastic contact angle and raceway contact deformation.The deduced formula on free contact angle from the mathematical model are found to be in close or identical agreement comparing with results of ball screw mechanism with a single arc groove profile and split inner-ring ball bearing.Results show that the radial clearance is a key factor affecting elastic contact angle.And the elastic contact angle variation of the ball screw may be easier to control if the sum of the two non-equivalence design contact angle contact angles kept constantly at a certain value.The research provides a theoretical basis for design of the new type double nut ball screw mechanism and error analysis of ball screw pair, optimization design of ball screw,and the intelligent optimization of assembly.
