Stability Prediction of Peripheral Milling of Flexible Workpieces Considering Material Removal Effect
Workpiece dynamics is time-varying during milling the flexible workpiece due to the material removal. This study investigates the in-process workpiece dynamics and the stability of the milling process of flexible workpiece. An efficient method for identification of workpiece dynamics based on structural dynamics modification is presented. To characterize the material removal upon the in-process workpiece dynamics,an updated dynamic model of the in-process workpiece is proposed. This model is integrated into the dynamic model of milling process. The method and model are verified by modal test and cutting test of thin-walled workpieces.Experimental results show that the stability of the milling process of the flexible workpiece can be accurately predicted.
