Experimental investigation of grindability of equiaxed Nickel-based superalloy K4125
Nickel-based superalloy is a typical hard-to-machining material in aero-engine manufacturing industry. The grindability of equiaxed cast nickel-based superalloy K4125 is discussed in this article. The effect of grinding parameters(e.g.,grinding speed, workpiece speed and depth of cut)on the grinding force, specific energy, grinding temperature and workpiece surface quality is analyzed. The results show that the grinding force and specific energy of K4125 superalloy are usually great; the grinding temperature of K4125 superalloy is above 400℃.Moreover,the wheel wear during grinding K4125 is also severe and ground surface roughness is high. Finally, the recommended grinding parameters of machining K4125 superalloy by brown corundum wheel is given which is grinding speed of 25-30m/s,workpiece speed of 500-1000mm/min,depth of cut of 0.01-0.02mm.
