Experimental investigation on ultrasonic vibration assistant helical milling for hole-making of Ti-6Al-4V alloy

In this study,a novel hybrid helical milling technique applying ultrasonic vibration(UVHM)is proposed compared with conventional dry helical milling(CHM)of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The experimental results showed that when the axial ultrasonic vibration was applied in dry helical milling,a superior cutting process can be obtained compared with that in CHM,including providing reduced cutting forces and improved surface integrity due to the intermittent material removal mechanism and the excellent chip removal conditions achieved in both axial and tangential intermittent cutting condition simultaneously.
