A simulation-based framework for energy consumption analysis and evaluation within forming production system
Single machine considerations are necessary but not sufficient for a holistic perspective on reducing energy use in manufacturing. Therefore, taking energy consumption into account in a perspective of production systems is increasingly an important issue.A lot of researches have been done to reduce energy use in machining, milling and casting but lack in forming production system. This study presents a simulation-based framework of energy consumption analysis and evaluation within forming production system.Energy consumption analysis in order to construct the physical model can be executed based on production related data.Subsequently,energy-oriented discrete event simulation is accomplished to develop the numerical model of the production system.Through the framework, key performance indicators of the forming production system are identified.Furthermore, optimization measures are proposed for systematical energy efficiency improvement. It shows that the presented simulation-based framework is of great importance to promote energy efficiency of the forming production system.
