Research on Optimal Design of Hydro-telescoping Mechanical Connectors for In Situ Assembly

  Hydro-telescoping mechanical connector is a new type mechanical connection of tubular products,which is higher strength fatigue resistant than in-situ welding,no torque,reusability,and faster connectivity without rotation compared to thread connection.According to the connection of tubular structure of deepwater offshore platform with complex installation conditions and wide range of sizes,an analytical model for rapid design and optimization is necessary.An analytical model for a family of hydro-telescoping mechanical connectors is proposed considering its applicable working conditions and installation process.Based on the connection principle,the constraint conditions of installation and working conditions are obtained,especially the hydraulic expansion installation conditions considering height of the matching teeth is established.According to the mechanics model,the optimal mathematical model for determining the key parameters of the connector is established,and the optimization model is solved by the genetic algorithm and the nonlinear programming optimization algorithm.Given the design requirements,the key structural dimensions of the mechanical connectors are obtained through optimization.The detail structure model and finite element analysis model is used to simulate the behavior of mechanical connector.Taking the mechanical connector of tension leg platform as an example,the case study show that the obtained hydro-telescoping mechanical connector can meet the requirements of stress intensity,contact strength and installation requirements.It shows that the design method is effective.This method is of practical value for the design of the same type of mechanical connector,and lays a foundation for the engineering application of the hydro-telescoping mechanical connector.
