Flank wear of PVD TiAlN and TiAlCrN coated Ti(C,N)-Mo2C-Ni cermet inserts during turning 9CrSi2Mn steel
The inserts composed of Ti(C,N)-10wt%Mo2C-15wt%Ni cermets(CM10)and WC-15wt%TiC-6wt%Co cemented carbides(YT15)were both coated with TiAlN and TiAlCrN films following physical vapor deposition(PVD),respectively. The cross-sectional morphology of the coated inserts was characterized by a scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and adhesivity of the coatings to the substrates was evaluated according to scratching.Flank-wear resistance of the coated inserts was analyzed when turning 9CrSi2Mn steel. It is found that TiAlN coating adheres to the cermet substrate more firmly than TiAlCrN.Additionally, the coated CM10 insert presents more excellent wear-resistance than the coated YT15 during turning, regardless of TiAlN or TiAlCrN.By contrast,TiAlN coating works better than TiAlCrN coating, especially in resisting against the adhesive wearing and diffusive wearing. However, obvious superiority of TiAlCrN coating over the TiAlN coating is exhibited as far as oxidative wearing.
