A Study on Characteristics of Hydro-forming Process for Aluminum Bumper Beam using FE Analysis
Recently,the use of Hydro-forming has been increasing to lighten the parts of vehicles.It replaces the conventional bumper beam with a light-weight 30%compared to conventional products having the same stiffness.Also the Hydro-forming process can be applied to various shapes of pipes and tubes such as a sub-frame,an exhaust manifold and the like as a method of producing precision parts in place of a general press process in the production of automobile parts.But,Hydro-forming process have complex parameters to obtain the target geometry and small residual stress.The parametric studies using FEA have been performed to suggest optimized process conditions.Through these numerical approaches,Internal/holding pressure and feeder forward stroke along the extruded direction are optimized for small residual stress and minimizing spring-back.The experimental observation by using 3D laser scanner is also performed to verify the numerical results.Numerical results and experimental results are compared in spring-back quantity.It is confirmed that they show a similartendency.
