Modeling of the Attachment of Inclusions to Bubbles in Molten Steel
In the current study, the attachment probability of inclusions onto the surface of a bubble was investigated based on the feature of the turbulent fluid flow around the bubble. The stochastic effect of turbulence on the motion of inclusions was taken into account by incorporating with the “random walk model. It was considered that the attachment between an inclusion and a bubble occurred as the interaction time was longer than the sliding time of the inclusion on the surface of the bubble. In addition, the staying of the inclusion in the wake of the bubble flow was also studied. The effects of the shape and the size of the bubble, the size of the inclusion and the turbulent kinetic energy on the attachment probability were investigated.Smaller bubbles and larger inclusions favor a more possible attachment. In the high turbulent flow, inclusions far from the bubble might interact, collide, and attach to the bubble due to the stochastic effect of the turbulence. The attachment probability increased with the increase of the turbulent kinetic energy.
