Modelling of Austenite Conditioning in Nb Microalloyed Grades Produced by TSCR Routes
Thin Slab Casting Rolling(TSCR)technologies are becoming a well-tested industrial processing route to develop steel grades with high added value. In the last years, several approaches, combining different configurations of roughing-finishing stands, have been proposed to answer customer requirements. The production of HSLA steel grades with good combinations of strength and toughness need a proper chemistry design combined with an adequate definition of processing variables. This is usually based on Nb microalloying, alone or combined with other additions, which constitute the frame for thermomechanical controlled rolling.A proper definition of thermomechanical processing variables results more complex in TSCR technologies and this can be done with the help of microstructural models. This manuscript presents the main characteristics and possibilities of MicroSim-DSP(R)microstructural model. This model predicts the austenite microstructure evolution during the whole thermomechanical process and it is based on metallurgical concepts.
