Effects of Temperature Gradients on Hot Deformation Behaviors
Temperature gradients are defined and introduced in the finite element simulation for hot rolling and hot compression. The lateral spread and local strains are evaluated at different temperature gradients for various sizes of workpieces, reductions, friction coefficients, and compared between the hot rolling and hot compression. As the temperature gradient increases, the lateral spread increases in hot compression, but decreases in hot rolling. The variations in the spread with the friction coefficients are diminished. The effective strain at the center increases, and the strain with a high value near the edge of workpieces decreases. These changes with the temperature gradients are more significant in hot compression than in hot rolling.
