Simulation and analysis of T-shaped road Junction stampede using macroscopic model
In the case of emergency crowd evacuation, the risk of congestion and stamping is definitely high in the location of T-shaped road junction. One of the most serious disasters is 2015 Mecca pilgrimage, more than 750 people have been killed and more than 900 injured 1.In order to study this stampede, this paper introduces the theory of pedestrian dynamics, using second crowd dynamic model(SCDM)to build the macroscopic crowd evacuation model.Thereby this paper simulates numerically crowd stampede occurred at T-shaped road junction between 204 street and 223 street in the Mecca pilgrimage. The critical crowd trampling density and central trampling density is obtained. The results demonstrate that around the critical crowd density, the large-scale stamping will occur once there exits even a little disturbance. Finally the crowd density distribution is showed in the form of both contour curve diagram and mesh diagram. The results of this paper can provide a novel approach to prevent the serious crowd stampede in the case of emergency.
