Given or Determined Quantity When Adding Capacity? Comparisons in Outpatient Appointment Capacity Allocation
Resources are quite limited in the healthcare industry.1,2 The imbalance between supply and demand is a great challenge that the large-sized hospitals are facing in the recent decade in the mainland China.Hospital managers consider a method of adding capacity to meet the high outpatient demand condition.Adding capacity is achieved by doctors working beyond their regular workload,rather than setting extra doctors or resources.It is one of the greatest benefits of this kind of method.How to set the quantity of the additional capacity becomes a problem when applies the adding capacity method.This paper focuses on this problem and tries to give effective suggestions to the hospital managers for different environments.
