Icing Wind Tunnel Calibration and Icing Test Research
Icing Wing Tunnel(IWT)is dedicated to simulate flight icing environments for aircraft icing research.IWT testing facility is very important on icing,de-/anti-icing and airworthiness certification.AVIC ARI has built a 0.6m level icing wind tunnel(FL-61),the test section is 0.6m(high)and 0.6m(wide),airspeeds up to 240m/s,altitude up to 7000m,the refrigeration heat exchanger can control air temperature below to-40℃.The water spray system has been designed for simulating icing cloud with Median Volume Diameter(MVD)of 15~50μm,maximum up to 100μm and Liquid Water Content(LWC)of 0.1~3g/m3.The AVIC ARI FL-61 wind tunnel can provide a high level of research platform for the aircraft icing and de-/anti-icing research.FL-61 icing cloud calibration follows SAE ARP 5905 Calibration and Acceptance of Icing Wind Tunnels, completely covers the icing conditions required by Airworthiness Regulations CCAR 25 Appendix C.Icing cloud uniformity is documented via icing grid, and particle sizes were measured with PDI,and liquid water content was measured simultaneously. The icing test of NACA0012 model has been carried out,and compared with many celebrated foreign icing wind tunnel test results. It shows that the results are consistent with foreign icing wind tunnel ice shape, focusing on the icing trend and the icing type.Quantitative analysis shows that stagnation ice thick, horn angle and height agree well with foreign ice wind tunnel test results.
