The Influence of Electric Field on the Collision Efficiency of Water Droplets
The main objective of this paper is to calculate the collision efficiency of small water droplets collected on a smooth conductor using the water droplet motion equation.As the conductor is energized,the exerted force on the droplets is a combination of the drag and dielectrophoretic forces.To simplify the problem,laminar flow was chosen to model the air flow around the conductor and coaxial cylinders were used to generate the electric field on the surface of the conductor.When an electric field is present,water droplets are attracted to the conductor.According to the simulation results,the collision efficiency increases with an increase in electric field strength.The influence of electric field on collision efficiency can be appreciable when wind velocity is low.When the wind velocity exceeds the critical wind velocity,however,the influence of electric field can be ignored.In addition to increasing collision efficiency,electric field can also increase the contact angle.
