Design of Wideband Microstrip Antenna with Multi Ring Slot Resonators on the Ground Plane

  to improve the impedance bandwidth of the microstrip antenna without increasing the antenna volume,the technique of multi resonant overlaps is adopted in this paper,which is realized by several square ring slot resonators embed in the antenna ground plane.The slot resonator is derived from a modified split ring resonators(MSRRs),and it is complementary to the MSRRs in the structure.The proposed antenna by the paper is composed of a piece of rectangular patch acting as the radiator of the antenna,a piece of stepped microstrip line acting as impedance transformer,a piece of dielectric substrate with permittivity of 4.4,a piece of rectangular patch acting as the ground plane of the antenna,and several slot resonators embed in the ground plane acting as the additional resonances producer.The numerical simulation and analysis of the new antenna was carried out by HFSS,and the results show that the relative bandwidths of the antenna with 3,6and 9 slot resonators are,respectively,14.1%,21.4%,26.3%,which are dramatically improved comparing to 4.2%of the conventional microstrip antenna.
