EHOLSR:An Enhanced Hierarchical OLSR Protocol for Heterogeneous Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks
In order to fit well into the heterogeneous MANET,various protocols have been proposed, and these protocols can be divided into two types, flat and hierarchical routing, according to their routing structure.Generally, flat routing protocols like OLSR,which cant distinguish the difference in performance among different interfaces and make best use of the higher capacity links,do not scale well in heterogeneous networks. To solve the scalability problem and reduce the control overhead,a typical hierarchical protocol called heterogeneous OLSR(HOLSR)was proposed. However,as a result of its static CH selection scheme and lack of flexibility when networking,HOLSR cant function well in the changeable network. In this paper,we proposed a new protocol called enhanced HOLSR(EHOLSR),and there are three main improvements in our work: 1.we propose a new cluster head(CH)section scheme to choose CH dynamically and more accurately.2.we find out an optimal size of cluster by using mathematical analysis, which will balance the traffic load of each cluster and avoid the bottle neck problem when the size of cluster is especially uneven.3.based on the part 2,we proposed a cluster formation algorithm, which will be more suitable for the heterogeneous MANET.We conduct extensive simulations to evaluate the performance of our scheme. Results show that EHOLSR reduces the size of CHs set by 54.5%and reduces the networking overhead by 54.2%compared with HOLSR.Besides, the size of cluster will be balanced because of our cluster formation scheme.
