SPACE DEMAND OF HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY TICKET HALL BASED ON INTERNET TICKET BOOKING

As internet railway ticket booking is becoming increasingly popular, the demand for physical ticketing booking has been reduced sharply, which leads to reduced number of ticket offices. In the background of internet ticket booking, tickets fetching has become a dominant operation in high-speed railway ticket hall, while physical ticketing,self-service ticketing and refunding service are auxiliary operations.Considering the service functions as multiple M/M/1 service systems, the ticket hall space can be calculated based on the queuing theory according to the number of service counters and peak hours passenger flow.In this paper,a case study with a 10,000-peak-hour-flow shows that the maximum space of ticket hall after adopting internet booking system is 70.2%of the current one and minimum is the 48.4%of current one. Therefore, this research is of significance on space utilization improvement of high speed railway ticket hall.
