STRESS ANALYSIS OF POLYMER DIAPHRAGM WALL FOR EARTH-ROCK DAMS UNDER STATIC AND DYNAMIC LOADS

Compared with plastic concrete and normal concrete, the polymer diaphragm wall enjoys advantages such as light weight, high early strength, environment friendliness, and high durability. The construction of polymer diaphragm wall features speedy, economic, and practical characteristics and create few influences on the dam.The polymer diaphragm wall has been successfully used in earth-rock dams. However, there are few studies on the static and dynamic characteristics of earth-rock dams at present. The Duncan-Chang E-B nonlinear model was used and the contact element was set up between the diaphragm wall and the dam based on the FEM(finite element method)model. We compared the stresses on polymer diaphragm wall, plastic concrete and normal concrete under static and seismic loads, which showed that the stress on the polymer diaphragm wall was the least and not easy to be failed. The polymer diaphragm wall can achieve higher security of earth-rock dams.
